Camu camu is the common name for Myrciaria dubia – a small Amazonian fruit that boasts the highest vitamin C content of any plant in the world. Its main growing area is near the Peruvian border with Brazil where the shrub - like tree – some 2-8 metres in height – thrives in the swamps and flood plains of the rainforest. The primary benefit of the fruit is related to its high content of vitamin C. However, due to its complex blend of other natural vitamins, minerals and nutrients, the vitamin C is efficiently absorbed in the pulp, and in turn, our bodies. Most synthetically produced vitamin C supplements contain only ascorbic acid, which, in isolation, cannot deliver the same level of nutrients as a natural whole-food source. Therefore, camu camu is considered far more effective than commercially produced vitamin C tablets.
Vitamin C plays an important role in maintaining health. It contributes to: collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth; the protection of cells from oxidative stress; normal energy-yielding metabolism; normal functioning of the nervous system; and maintain the normal function of the immune system during and after intense physical exercise.
Usage: You can puti it into smoothies, yogurt, juices, beverages, desserts or dressings.
